Who likes crêpes?

crepesWe felt like something was missing in our line up of products… Something truly French that everyone at French Made loves making and eating and that we’re missing so much from our homeland… Something really hard to find in Vancouver…  Yes, we’re talking about crêpes! Truly French crêpes: sweet ones made of wheat flour, butter, milk, eggs and savoury ones made of buckwheat flour, salt and water, just the way we eat them in Brittany.

Most of the toppings will be homemade of course. As with all our pastries, we prefer making everything from scratch so we know exactly what’s in it (only good and natural products) and we can add our personal touch to classics like lemon curd, applesauce, pesto, etc. One of the only exceptions being Nutella because Nutella crêpes are such a classic and a fond childhood memory of almost all French people…

Sweet and Savoury crepes are available for dine-in customers and for take-out. They are made fresh to order (which means don’t order one when you’re in a hurry as it takes a few minutes to prepare) and have to be eaten right away (don’t save it for the next morning breakfast please).

It’s important to tell your mother you love her every day but let’s make her feel really really special on Mother’s Day!

How about starting the day by taking the time to gather all the family around the table for breakfast? We will open earlier this Sunday, at 10am instead of 11am for you to get fresh out of the oven croissants to go with your morning coffee or tea!

If you want to further spoil her, we have a few options: gift certificates for baking classes, a large selection of macarons, Kusmi Tea gift sets and fancy desserts! We will have the Yspahans (large macaron filled with rose & litchi cream and fresh raspberries) on Saturday and Sunday. They tend to sell out quickly, do not hesitate to call to reserve yours!

Desserts and Daffodils campaign: yummy éclairs
In April, we’ll be participating in the “Desserts and Daffodils” campaign to support Canadian Cancer Society-BC/Yukon. The challenge of this campaign is to create yellow desserts and was issued by James Coleridge, Owner and “Gelato Master” of Bella Gelateria. We’re very excited  to participate and we chose to do a focus on éclairs for the whole month, and especially the last week leading up to Daffodil Day (April 27). Expect to see “yellow” éclairs flavoured for example with passion fruit, banana and chocolate, lemon and other funky flavours to celebrate spring like strawberry and more… Follow us on Facebook and Twitter to know all about it! 10% of the sales of éclairs will be donated to the Foundation.

New macarons
We love spring! Sunshine (in between showers), marvelous scents of all the flowers blooming everywhere… We were inspired and created new flavours of macarons like lavender and honey, black sesame and jasmine green tea. We are working on a lemon macaron that will be released some time in April or May. We hope you’ll like them all!

Make it! Vancouver
As every spring for the past 2 years, you’ll be able to find us at the Make it! Vancouver craft fair at the Croatian Cultural Center from April 19 to 21 with over 140 other artisans, crafters and designers. From jewellery to baked goods, clothing and accessories, there will be something for everyone! And there will be mive music and a bar, could it get any better? Be smart and buy your admission tickets online before April 17 to get 40% off or join the list to receive by email your ticket with $1 off.

We know you all loved Macaron Day last year, a fun way to enjoy macarons and to raise funds for a good cause so it’s back for a second year! It is celebrated all over the world and in Vancouver on March 20!


Everyone who mentions Macaron Day in the store will receive a macaron and will be invited to make a donation to BC Children’s Hospital Foundation (while supplies last, suggested donation: $2). Part of all macarons sales will be donated to the Foundation as well.

Here are the flavours that will be available at the start of the day:

Celebrating Valentine’s Day with a French flair!

In addition to our usual 10 to 12 flavours of French macarons, we are cooking up special treats to say “Je t’aime” to your loved ones!

 

Back by popular demand are the heart shaped pink macarons flavoured with rose and litchi ganache. Available in limited quantities in the store (February 5 to 14) and at Nat Bailey Stadium Farmers’ Market (February 9 only) they may be purchased individually ($2 including tax) or in boxes of 2 ($4.25), 6 ($11) or 12 ($22).

Regular macarons are available individually ($1.75), in boxes of 2 ($4.10), 6 ($10) and 12 ($19).

 

 

The Yspahan is a great dessert to end a romantic dinner on a sweet note with style! This large macaron, great for sharing, is filled with fresh raspberries, a litchi and rose with litchi buttercream ($5.25).

 

 

 

You want to impress your sweetheart by cooking yourself a romantic dinner but struggle for dessert ideas? Why not get a profiteroles kit? The kit comes with 4 choux, a rich chocolate sauce and roasted sliced almonds. All you need to do is cut the choux in half, fill with ice cream and close, heat up the chocolate sauce and pour it on the choux, sprinkle with almonds and voilà! a delicious (almost) homemade dessert!
